The advent of the digital age has seen our
ability to record and replay audio information grow exponentially. Apart from
dedicated audio recorders audio information can be recorded on a diverse range
of digital devices, such as mobile phones, cameras and laptops etc. Recording in
various digital formats has largely replaced analogue recording, and generally
offers an improvement in quality.
A huge amount of audio information is recorded
every day, both overtly and covertly. This information may be used, amongst
other things: as intelligence; as evidence in Courts of Law; to settle disputes.
Today there are few major trials which do not have some form of audio evidence.
However, despite improvements resulting from digital recording, the quality of
recorded audio material is often mediocre. In many cases vital evidence /
information can be missed due to poor recording techniques or the recording of
environmental sounds – noise - along with the desired speech.
Audio enhancement can reduce, and in some cases
eliminate, some types of noise interference. Critical listening and analysis is
used to identify the problems with a recording, and then appropriate techniques
and tools are used to enhance / suppress desired sounds.
Clarity Forensics uses the latest software and
has over fifteen years of experience in dealing with evidential recordings. We
are able to work with a wide range of formats and offer a free initial
assessment.
